Victorian Heart Pendant Tutorial
This Tutorial is considered beginning, intermediate and advanced
This beautiful heart pendant is a classic favorite brought back to life with some new variations on the design, you will be able to make this design your own while learning valuable skills in metalsmithing. This versatile design can be used with heart shaped cabochons as well as pear, oval and round shapes, only limited by your imagination. Three different variations in the design are presented starting with a beginning pendant, then progressing through an intermediate and finally through an advanced pendant.
The first pendant in this series is considered a beginner’s project with emphasis on wire weaving and minimal hammering techniques and all subsequent pendants in this tutorial will build off the skills and techniques learned when constructing this pendant. Each additional pendant in this series will be modified slightly from this basic pendant design and will add other elements using additional metalsmithing techniques.
The second pendant design will add a soldered and filed point along with additional soldering to the frame and a handmade prong setting for a gemstone quality cabochon along with an additional point, and soldered wire back piece. You will learn valuable skills at this point, which can be applied to the next pendant.
The third and the final pendant which combines the elements of the previous two and add a hand soldered Bezel with solid back for the focal along with a quality manufactured prong setting and faceted gemstone. An Additional wire woven element will be added transforming the design into something reminiscence of a Victorian era piece of jewelry
This is a very versatile design which can be used with pear, oval and round focal cabochons as well as the heart, only requiring slight modifications. The skills and techniques learned in this tutorial can be applied to future projects limited only by your imagination. 87 Pages and 250+ photos presented.
